Detroit Red Wings: Henrik Zetterberg will miss two-weeks with a herniated disc

Detroit Red Wings captain and leading scorer Henrik Zetterberg has been sidelined from action for at least two-weeks with a herniated disc according to ESPN. The injury to the Wings’ star comes at a terrible time as superstar centre Pavel Datsyuk is also missing in action with a concussion.

December will be a busy month for the Red Wings, making the loss to Zetterberg worrisome. Detroit will play 11 games in 21 nights starting tomorrow at home against the Philadelphia Flyers. Throw in the filming of HBO’s “24/7” and it’s going to be a busy run up to Christmas for the Detroit Red Wings without their two top players.

The Red Wings currently occupy third place in the Atlantic Division but their grasp is not tight with the Tampa Bay Lightning a mere two points behind and the Toronto Maple Leafs within four.

With his expected return two weeks away, the injury to Zetterberg will not prevent the Swedish star from partaking in the Winter Classic on January 1, nor will it refrain him from suiting up for his home country at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
