Winnipeg Jets defender Tobias Enstrom announced yesterday that he will not suit up for the Swedish National Team at the upcoming Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

The Swedish roster is stacked. No Enstrom is bad news but not necessarily devastating. A long list of talented Swedish natives rank among the best defensemen in the NHL.

Options to play defence for the Swedes includes Niklas Kronwall, Erik Karlsson, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Niklas Hjalmarsson, Jonas Brodin, Alex Edler, Viktor Hedman, Johnny Oduya and Jonathan Ericsson.

According to Sports Illustrated, Enstrom told Swedish head coach Per Marts that he wanted to focus all his attention on the Winnipeg Jets this season. Read full article by SI here.

The last time the Olympic tournament was played outside of North America the Swedish National Team won gold. They have a great chance to reign victorious in 2014, with or without Enstrom. That being said, they will feel the loss a little. The Jets puck moving blueliner is quietly one of the best in the NHL.
