Another suspension… they are becoming a daily occurrence in the NHL this season, which either means the players are becoming increasingly vicious and ignorant of the rules, or the league has implemented a severe crack-down against violent offences.
For his Thursday night head-shot to Blues forward Vladimir Sobotka, Leafs big-dollar winger David Clarkson has been suspended for two-games. The suspension is Clarkson’s second to be served so far this season – he was sidelined for the first ten games of the calendar for illegally joining a melee against the Buffalo Sabres in the pre-season.
Clarkson’s suspension is the eighteenth allotted to an NHL player this season (Shawn Thornton of the Boston Bruins will make nineteenth later today when the league announces his sentence), and it is the sixth suspension awarded in as many days – the second suspension incurred by the Leafs this week.
