Do you ever wonder what assistant general managers actually do? Because the role of an Asst. GM isn’t always well-documented. Fenton has been a deputy to Nashville Predators GM David Poile for eight years, while also doubling as general manager of the club’s AHL affiliate the Milwaukee Admirals.

Pat Lafontaine has some strong candidates to choose from, making Fenton’s pitch for the position only one of many possibilities for the future of the Sabres franchise. However, Fenton does appear ready. He is heavily involved in the process with the Predators and his AHL experience is proof that he is capable of calling the shots.

From here, with limited insider knowledge, it appears as though the Sabres’ guy is Jim Benning who currently serves as assistant general manager with the Boston Bruins. Read about Benning here.

If you love the Buffalo Sabres and you don’t know much about Paul Fenton, that may change in the very near future. Fenton is a candidate for the vacant GM position with the Buffalo Sabres, confirmed by at least three sources, including Hockey Night in Canada’s Glen Healy, THN’s Glen Campbell, and John Vogl of Buffalo News.
