Sabres’ John Scott injures Bruins’ Eriksson then drops the gloves with McQuaid

In a game last night between the Buffalo Sabres and Boston Bruins, NHL tough guy John Scott landed a questionable blindside hit, knocking B’s RW Loui Eriksson into a daze. There will likely be substantial supplementary discipline awarded Scott for his actions.

This is not the first time a game between the Sabres and Bruins has taken an ugly turn for the worse. In the 2011-12 season, Bruins’ Milan Lucic ran over goaltender Ryan Miller, causing a giant pile up. It’s thought Scott was acquired to regulate Boston’s physical edge over the Sabres. Watch the Lucic hit from 2011-12 here.

Scott was involved in a controversial melee earlier this (pre)season against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Sabres tough guy initiated a fight with Leafs’ pacifist Phil Kessel. Leafs’ offseason free agent signing David Clarkson hopped the boards in defence of Kessel. His ill advised breach of league rules earned him a 10-game suspension that expired Tuesday, October 22. As Clarkson returns, Scott will likely take a turn on the sidelines. The hockey world is almost unanimous in its belief that NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan will throw the book at Scott for his hit last night.  Watch Scott’s hit on Eriksson courtesy of Hockey Fights dot com‘s YouTube channel.
