Flyers goaltender Ray Emery beats up unwilling combatant Braden Holtby

Last night’s game between the Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals wasn’t pretty on the scoreboard, and it wasn’t pretty on the ice. With the winner a foregone conclusion, a line-brawl erupted, sparked by a Wayne Simmonds hit. Flyers goaltender Ray Emery took it upon himself to do his part in fighting with his team. The netminder raced down the ice to engage Caps goaltender Braden Holtby in one-on-one combat. However, Holtby seemed uninterested in partaking. Emery wailed on him anyway.

The Capitals won the game 7-0 courtesy of three goals by Joel Ward, two by Nicklas Backstrom, and one apiece by Troy Brouwer and Jason Chimera.

10 goals in 10 games for Alex Ovechkin

Alex Ovechkin scored his 10th goal of the season tonight against the Edmonton Oilers. That’s 10 tallies in 10 games for the Great 8. Obviously, the math is simple here. If he continues to score at a goal a game pace he will finish the season with 82. That’s a lot to expect, especially in an Olympic year, however, if anyone can hit the 80’s in goals scored, it’s probably Ovechkin.

Ovechkin’s goal was a lethal product of his incredible shooting ability. The Caps’ captain finished a set play off the draw, drilling a laser beam top shelf on bewildered Oilers’ goaltender Devan Dubnyk. Final score, Caps 4 Oilers 1. Ovechkin goal courtesy of the NHL YouTube Channel
