Where there is good there will always be a little bit of bad, and with very talented offensive defencemen, the bad usually leads to preventable goals against. Karlsson, often the positive influence on a Sens win, was the Goat tonight.
The Ducks 1-0 lead in the 1st period was far from commanding, however, when the Ottawa Senators’ former Norris winner sloppily cut in front of his own net with the puck, his actions cost the Senators the goal that ultimately did them in. The Ducks won the game 2-1.
Erik Karlsson‘s blunder was not entirely his fault – credit to the opponent. The Anaheim Ducks are one of the league’s finest puck pursuit teams. The Sens’ defender was a little careless while retrieving a dump in behind his own net, and before he knew it, the Ducks big line swarmed, burying on an unsuspecting Craig Anderson.
Karlsson’s mistake cost his team on this night, however, there will be games this season when his performance leads to victory. It’s all part of a young defenceman’s growth in the NHL. Unfortunately, when players set such a high standard in their early twenties, it’s difficult to live up to the hype, every night.
