This evening’s contest between the New York Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins features two of Canada’s best centremen going head-to-head. John Tavares of the Isles and Sidney Crosby of the Penguins have many things in common that make them so great. Both players were drafted 1st overall in the NHL entry draft – 2009 and 2005, respectively. The two dynamic captains also shared the distinction of Hart trophy nominee last season, both losing out to Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals.

The Penguins eliminated the Islanders from the first round of the playoffs last year, not before receiving a scare from their 8th place opponents.

Tavares has enjoyed success against Crosby and the Pens. In his very first NHL game the Penguins were on the schedule, and JT came to play, scoring 2 points in his debut. Watch video of Tavares’ first NHL goal courtesy of the NHL‘s YouTube Channel. Subscribe here
